Nocton Dairies Ltd - cow welfare

Big dairies not necessarily bad

I have had an interesting and eventful couple of days, involving various telephone calls collecting more background information on all things dairy.  However, this evening I noticed another article in the Farmers Guardian which I just couldn't ignore.

Why big dairies are not necessarily bad for cow welfare – RSPCA

There are so many issues surrounding this big dairy concept that need full and extensive debate.  We also need a detailed examination of all the hard facts and I don't think the UK has yet had the opportunity to do this.

There are even differing views within their own industry and that is why a recent visit to the U.S. was undertaken to consider these large-scale dairies.  I do wonder sometimes whether a public enquiry would be appropriate to consider all aspects, before we fall headlong into something that we might regret over the longer term.
