Exactly the reason why decisions about the UK shouldn't be made in Brussels!
Nocton Dairies - Two sides to the question [by Roger Helmer MEP]
http://rogerhelmermep.wordpress.com/2010/09/22/nocton-dairies-two-sides-to-the-question/
I submitted the following comment against this article:
"My my, Roger... how easily led are you? If you are going to publish an article and comment on such an important farming issue as this, please please do your research first... and at least hear both sides of the argument before contributing. It does not give me much faith in the ability of our MEPs to fully consider the pros and cons of the agri-industrial units that may begin to dominate the UK countryside, if this intensive dairy is given the green light. As a start, you could begin by visiting the residents campaign site: http://www.caffo.co.uk/ and the local village blog http://nocton.blogspot.com/"
Unfortunately, after appearing initially as '#comment-5135', this now seems to have been moderated. I therefore entered another comment under Mr Helmer's main webpage asking if my contribution had been moderated... and guess what, after appearing briefly... this has now disappeared too.
Well so much for democracy and freedom of speech... unless this is a gliche with his website!
Update 22 Sept [18:37hrs]
Thanks to an intervention by Paula West, I see my original comments have now appeared. Much appreciated Paula - thank you.
Update 25 Sept [09:59hrs]
Mr Helmer's letter has now been posted in the Lincolnshire Echo as an article. See here:

Industrialised farming will not make us more self-sufficient
Organic farming still has a vital part to play in the food chain

In respect to your allegation that your comment was removed, I'm afraid that is not true. Your comment will look like it has been published to the person who has made the comment, but will not appear anywhere publicly until it has been manually approved.
ReplyDeleteThe comment did not "disappear" but was awaiting approval. The comment was not published due to any intervention but was published when the comments in the moderation queue were manually approved.
That is fairly common place with wordpress based blogs, so it is nothing to do with freedom of speech or indeed a problem with the Roger Helmer blog.
I trust this goes some way to explaining the situation and how many blogs including my own operate.
Thank you for clarifying this Jonathan. It might be helpful if there was a warning message on Roger's blog, that comments will be reviewed for moderation before publication and there may be a delay in posting.
