Nocton Fen

October at Nocton Fen

There are some wonderful photographs of Nocton Fen on this site that you might like to see.

The photographer (Miles Collins) says it is his 'favourite place on earth'. Interestingly, he goes on to express his concern about a 'major farming initiative', that presumably is the building of the Anaerobic Digester (AD) for Robert Beck of Nocton Fen Farms. The planning permission for this AD was granted on 27th July 2010 by Lincolnshire County Council and must be built within three years of that date I understand.

That said, he could also be concerned about the intensive dairy operation planned by Nocton Dairies, for which permission is due to be resubmitted shortly? There is however, no current evidence to imply the two developments are connected, unless of course Nocton Dairies are planning to seek authority to use the Nocton Fen Farms' digester as part of their strategy for disposing of the huge amounts of slurry produced by their cows.

On the face of it though, this seems highly unlikely as Lincolnshire County Council had the foresight to place a specific restriction on the permitted feedstock materials for this particular digester [see document: PL_0006_10_Decision_Notice[1] for the Lincolnshire County Council Planning Application 10/0206/CCC], "... restricted to maize silage, sugar beet toppings, grass silage and any other biomass or energy crops that are grown and sourced from within the farmholding... in addition to imported sugar beet pulp."

Patrick Dean Ltd

Local villagers may be interested in another application submitted recently by this farmer "To lay an underground pipe from Mere Pumphouse (north of Mere Hall Bracebridge Heath) to Boothby Heath Farm for Agricultural purposes (resubmission of 10/0486/FUL). Mere Pumphouse To Boothby Heath Farm (passing East Mere Farm, Dunston Pillar House And Boundary Cottages)". This planning application can be located on the North Kesteven District Council planning portal [10/1214/FUL].

  1. Do you think Patrict Dean withdrew his application and his slurry agreement just to quieten things down until the dairy application comes back? could be trying to piecemeal again but this time with `no ties'...until later. I would be very suspicious regarding Patrick Dean's `new application'.
