Dog Warden

What a load of .... poo

I took a photo during a holiday in Majorca which made me smile.

What doesn't make me smile is the amount of dog mess being left by irresponsible owners around our village.

It isn't the dog's fault that it doesn't clear up after itself and to help with this problem, the Parish Council provide the red dog waste bins dotted around the village and have them emptied regularly, so there is no excuse really. It is no trouble to take a plastic bag out with you whilst walking the dog.

It is however a great deal of trouble to clear evil-smelling poo off your shoe when people have insensitively allowed their dog to crap on the public highway and byway (which includes all public footpaths around the countryside too).

To a degree, although I believe it is still an offence, I can possibly understand those owners who don't clear up after their pets when they mess off the beaten trail in the long grass, well away from where people are likely to walk... but what is completely beyond me, are those people who take the trouble to bag their dog mess and then it leave hanging on a bush for others to clear, or throw it deep into the hedge. Now that really is bizarre behaviour!

As a result, our Parish Council has arranged for a new dog warden to patrol the village and surrounding area.  His name is Michael Cummins and can be contacted on 07903 898451 and email: michael.cummins507@gmail.com

If you meet him, stop and have a chat.  He will even dispense a bag for the dog poo if you have forgotten to bring one out with you... and to those who do not like clearing up after your dog, be warned you may end up with a fixed penalty notice.

Oh... and if you happen to see someone flouting the rules, you might like to pick up the phone or email Michael and give him a description of what you have seen.

Now then, I must remember to walk the dogs.
