A small number of hardy residents turned up for the Parish Council Meeting on Tuesday 7 February. The meeting covered many topics and in the interest of briefness I have listed below just some of them.
A report of three recent thefts in the village had been received from the police. Once again heating oil had been siphoned from a domestic tank in the village - so please everyone, be extra vigilant and lock your oil tank caps!
The Dog Warden had reported that the Dunston bridleway is still subject to dog fouling and additional signage is being requested for posting in the village.
New Nocton Parish Council Notice Board
The Council agreed to purchase a new Notice Board which will be located on the Green along with the refurbished Coronation Bench. A grant from County Councillor Marianne Overton will help offset some of the cost.
Village Hall
A structural engineer was appointed to carry out a thorough report on the apparent subsidence which was affecting a part of the Village Hall.
An informal Working Group comprising the Chairs and Vice-chairs of the Parish Council, Village Hall Management Committee and Nocton Club is to be set up to help improve communication and liaison between the three main bodies involved in the use of the Village Hall.
Play Area
It was agreed to pursue the possibility of establishing a children’s playground in the village. As a first step, Councillor Williams, who is leading on the project on behalf of the Parish Council, will be circulating a questionnaire to residents in order to determine the level of interest, possible location and the nature of the equipment which might be provided.
Reports to the meeting from individual Councillors included the following issues:
- The Chair, Vice and Councillor Faulkner had met with Karen Bradford (NKDC) to discuss a range of issues affecting Nocton Park. As a consequence, a meeting with the developer is being arranged to take these matters forward.
- Parking at the entrance to Nocton Park on the bend by the horses’ field is a cause of some concern, as are the cars which park on the verge on Wellhead Lane. The police are to be asked to see if they can have a word with the offenders.
- The Parish Council agreed to the purchase of commemorative mugs to be provided free of charge to children under 11 to mark the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (see enclosed order form). A decision on the purchase of a beacon which would be used as part of the village’s celebration activities on 4th June will be taken at the next meeting. A Diamond Jubilee presentation will be held on Saturday, 28th April setting out the celebrations being planned for Nocton on Monday, 4 June 2012
Date of next Meeting Tuesday, 7th March at 7pm
Councillor MaryAnn Williams
