"AS FROM TODAY, YOU ARE INVITED TO TAKE AWAY ANY OF THE RED AND WHITE FLOWERS THAT ARE IN THE PLANTERS

With the winter approaching quickly now, plans for the next displays in our village planters are well underway. This will be the second winter our planters will be filled, welcoming people to our lovely village - time does fly!

In order to make room for the next batch of plants, we need to empty the planters of their current 'occupants'! Who knows, you may be lucky enough to get a few more weeks colour from them. Please feel free to take the plants this week 15/10 - 19/10

'Jim and I have been doing this sponsored bike ride for many years.  We cycle about thirty five miles and visit about twenty churches.  You plan your own route and visit as many churches as you choose.  Half the money raised goes to a church of your own choice and the other half goes to The Lincolnshire Churches Trust.  All Saints, Nocton has received grants from The Lincolnshire Churches Trust as part of the restoration programme this year.

Lincoln Minster School Chamber Choir Concert

Six months ago this choir premiered a new work by Howard Goodall CBE, composer of the signature tunes for Blackadder, The Vicar of Dibley and Mr Bean. In Westminster Abbey they sang the first performance of Every Purpose Under the Heaven, with words from the King James Bible. They will sing selections from this piece as part of a varied programme of choral music at the Nocton Church Flower Festival concert.  From songs by modern composers like John Rutter and Bob Chilcott to old favourites like Verdi’s Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and Allegris’s Miserere, there is something for everyone in this programme.

Don’t miss the chance to hear this outstanding choir, in which many ex-Lincoln Cathedral Choir choristers sing.

Jubilee Update

HOT OFF THE PRESS ..... with just 2 weeks to go until the big day in Nocton, Monday 4th June, just an update for you after our latest Nocton Festival 2012 meeting. Please forward this email on to your own contacts, friends and acquaintances.

Jubilee Mug Collection

If you ordered a Jubilee mug via Councillor MaryAnn Williams from Nocton Parish Council, you will be able to collect it/them on Monday 4th June at the “Royal” Garden Party on The Green. The mugs will be available for collection from 2pm from the Raffle Gazebo.

Putting up the Village Bunting

With circa 200/300m of bunting made by various residents, we need people to help us hang it up to adorn our beautiful village. If you would like to lend a hand, please meet at 1 Wrays Yard, Nocton on Saturday 2nd June at 2pm. Everything has been organised, so all we need is the labour. Come along and have some fun making Nocton look fabulous for the Jubilee week.

General Set-Up for the “Royal” Garden Party

If you can lend a hand making The Green look good for the “Royal” Garden Party, then pop along to Wilderness Cottage, The Green on Sunday 3rd June at 10am . We will need help putting up gazebos, collecting and placing chairs and moving some (kindly donated) picnic furniture into position – many hands make light work.

House decorating

It would be nice to see as many houses decorated for the Jubilee week as possible. Please consider decorating the frontage of your house in red, white and blue – even a simple Union Flag (NF2012 has found flags for sale for £1 from Wilkinson’s and Poundland also has some cheap flags and bunting available) It use

to be traditional to dress your window with a Royal display – let’s make our village one of the best in the area! Even if you are not around during that week, leaving a flag in your window would be a fabulous gesture.

This event is open to young and old alike, and not just Nocton residents – make sure you secure your place soon – a fantastic night out with fabulous music, supper, licensed bar and ..... without the need for a taxi home or baby sitters (children welcome until the Beacon lighting time 10.26pm)

Help required

Planting the Planters

If you are free later today (at 1.00 pm), you may wish to volunteer with planting out the three village planters.

If you meet at Ghyllside, The Avenue, armed with gloves and trowel, you will be made most welcome.

Jubilee Evening - 4th June

The evening celebration '60 Glorious Years of Music Dance' is proving very popular,  so to avoid disappointment, buy your tickets now before they all go.

Tickets are available from Nocton Club, by phoning 01526 321772 (leave a message if there is no answer).

Cycle Marathon

For those of you (like myself) who are over 50 and fancy a bit of fresh air and exercise, you may like to join the Sustrans Cycle Ride at Brayford Pool North (10.00 am).

Join in for the Jubilee

The following email was received from the Nocton Festival 2012 team late last night:

"Hello Everyone

Time for a change!

We have collected our new batch of plants for our next planters planting scheme.  To make way for them, we now have to clear the pansies that have wonderfully greeted us into the village for the past months.  We are taking this opportunity to invite anyone who feels they would like to take some of the pansies from the planters, to do so BEFORE DUSK on Wednesday 16th May.  They may or may not grow for you next season, but we just didn't want to discard them without offering them an alternative home.  Any pansies that are left on Thursday 17th May, will be cordially invited to attend, 'a humane disposal by compost heap'.  Thank you :-)

Also on Sunday 13 May 2012 .....

We will need your help to collect the woodland materials needed to make the crown.
On Sunday 13 May at 2.30 children and adults are invited to join a foraging party led by Mr Baxendale. Bring along a carrier bag and a pair of secateurs. Meet at the school front gate.

On Monday 28 May, Tuesday 29 May and Wednesday 30th May you are invited to come to school to start to assemble the crown. All you’ll need is a smile – and garden secateurs again. The sessions will run from 3pm until 4pm each day and will take place in the school garden – weather permitting. We will work inside if necessary.
Don’t forget the 'Royal' Garden Party on Monday 4 June, The Green, Nocton and the evening dance, '60 Glorious Years of Music' also on Monday 4 June 2012 (further details on our website).  Tickets for the evening event are selling very well, please get yours soon to avoid disappointment.

Flower Festival 2012

Nocton Primary School

I have received the following information from Nocton Primary School about their preparations for the Diamond Jubilee.

Diamond Jubilee

We would like to let you know about some of Nocton Primary School preparations for the Diamond Jubilee and to ask you for some help.

Jubilee Crown

Jubilee Bunting

Also……  The village will be decorated with home made bunting for the celebrations.  It is intended that the bunting will be made from recycled materials (old clothes, sheets, curtains and perhaps even coloured plastic bags) or from any other suitable materials. 

There will be bunting workshops every Saturday from 4^th May at The Hub in Sleaford and also in school from 2 – 4 on Monday 23^rd April, when Jane Harrison from Arts NK will be coming to share her skills.  Please bring a pair of fabric scissors and any old material which we can cut up to make flags.

To decorate the front of school it would be very eye catching to have red and yellow gold bunting.  We could do this by dying old sheets.  If you have any that you could donate to us we would put them to good celebratory use. 

We would also like to help the village to collect other fabrics to turn into bunting.  Any old shirts, dresses, quilt covers etc, etc which are now past their best can be dropped off at school.  Any colours, any patterns.  As old as you like!

If you have any photos of you, your family or parts of the village taken in the past six years, please bring them on a cd.  We would like to use your photographs to print on to flags for the Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations.  Jane Harrison will also be taking a group of people on a walk around the village to take more photographs.  Please bring your own digital camera.

Parish Council Report - March 2012

Report for March

This month’s meeting, as well as dealing with its normal business, received a stimulating and informative presentation from Nick Jones (Arts NK) regarding the provision of a bench on The Green.

Police.  Four incidents were reported during the last month.  Two more thefts of oil, the theft of a motorbike from the back garden of a house in Wellhead Lane and an act of vandalism to a car, also in Wellhead Lane.

Dog Warden.  Fouling is still occurring far too frequently on the Bridle Path.  Unfortunately no offenders have yet been apprehended but our Dog Warden will continue to carry out random patrols in an attempt to catch these irresponsible dog-owners.

Nocton Festival 2012.  Plans are already well advanced for the celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Monday, 4th June.  A presentation is to be made to residents on Saturday 28 April, so that everyone can see what has been planned already and to contribute any further ideas of their own.  Nocton Village has been registered as part of the countywide Beacon celebrations, with its very own “Light Towers”

Play Area.  It was agreed to circulate a questionnaire to every household in Nocton to ascertain the demand for a playground in the village.  It is hoped to provide a play area for children up to 11/12 years of age, so that everyone (especially the children) is being asked for their input into what sort of play ground, if any, they would like.

Planning Applications.  Two applications have been submitted which may have an impact on Nocton and the following responses have been put forward by your Parish Council:

• Dunston Quarry.  To ask that NKDC look at the impact of the increasing use of the Dunston Fen Road by heavy lorries and the additional amounts of mud being deposited on the surrounding roads.
• Anaerobic Digester – Nocton Fen.  Councillors all agreed that a strong objection should be made to the request to remove the clause lifting any restrictions on what is processed in the plant.  County Councillor Overton said that she would also keep a close eye on this particular application.

Village Hall. The Chair reported that an initial structural survey of the Village Hall had been completed although a drain survey still had to be undertaken before any firm decisions could be made about carrying out any repair and maintenance works, etc to the Hall.  At this stage, however, it appeared that any settlement was most likely due to the extremely dry conditions of the past year or so and the nearby trees.

Presentation

Nick Jones gave a presentation to the Parish Council and members of the public present on a proposal to provide a bench around one of the trees on The Green.

In 2008 Nocton residents took part in a project for a then proposed “fence” outside the Village Hall but due to budget cuts this never happened.  However, a bench is now being designed for The Green using the drawings and ideas those put forward at that time.  The final design would also incorporate resin insets for everyone from the village who wishes to encapsulate a small item of personal significance.

Councillors agreed that this idea for a bench should be pursued further and will visit Wellingore to see where something similar has already been installed.

Finally the other good news is that Arts NK has a maintenance contract for the other artworks in the village and this will be sued to keep these in good condition.  The Parish Council is also looking to refurbish its two Nocton Village Signs and to consider installing a third one in Wellhead Lane.
