Is this a sign of things to come?
Walking the dogs over the last few weeks, I have noticed the steady deterioration in the upkeep of the public accessible areas of the local Nocton Estate. The verges alongside the main estate road to Wasp's Nest have started to get overgrown, whereas the previous owner used to keep these mown and tidy. Good for wildlife I suppose, but it won't take long for nature to claim back the area.
Furthermore and more importantly, the public footpaths around the Estate e.g. Nocton to Dunston, are also getting overgrown with the mixed hedging starting to overhang the path... these too were maintained on a regular basis in the past. If this continues, the Parish Council will need to pursue this with the new owners.
If little jobs like these cannot be maintained, let's hope this laid back approach will not be adopted for the huge responsibility in running a large industrial dairy on a fragile aquifer, with all that entails.
Latest Update - 16th June
Yesterday the verges on the Estate Rd from Top Lodge were cut, as were the footpaths. Credit where credits due.
