Whats On - events

Sep/Oct 2010

This article was published in the All Saints, Nocton Parish Magazine, September 2010.  I have had permission off Cliff Baxendale to reproduce it here, just in case you might be interested in going along one Tuesday.

"Nocton Art Group

Next term begins on 7th September.  This will be our tenth year of working together.  Out first ever session took place in February 2000.  The initial plan was for anyone interested in art, painting and drawing to come together and enjoy each other's company as we shared our creative skills with each other.  Looking back through the registers I have counted 76 people who have been in the group at one time or another. Some came for a few weeks, some for two or three years, and a few are still with us.

The group grew and changed, but it became evident that most people wanted to learn the fundamentals of painting and to explore the wide range of possibilities available to us.  So, we have done projects making pin-hole cameras, woodcarving, clay modelling, mosaic making and most recently, doing linocuts.

We have learned something about the creative use of media, how to paint in water colour, gouache and acrylics.  One or two people have even done oil painting!  We have learned the secrets of perspective, composition, colour and the principles of creativity.

I believe we have had a great time and for £2.50 per week we have even had a cup of tea and a biscuit!  So, why don't come on Tueday to the Village Hall.  We begin at 1.00pm and finish about 4.00pm.  If you would like to know more please contact Cliff Baxendale on 01526 321923."
