Traffic Survey

You may be interested in seeing the results of a traffic survey carried out on Main Street, Nocton during the week commencing 21 February 2012. This was handed out during the Parish Council meeting last night, so is in the public domain:

Traffic Survey

The following information may assist:

  • The upper chart shows the total volume of traffic per day Westbound to B1188 and Eastbound into Nocton, with weekday averages for all vehicles (1,032) and the 'mean' speed (38 mph).
  • The lower chart shows the total volume of traffic per day Westbound to B1188 and Eastbound into Nocton, with the numbers of HGV identified. It also shows the weekday averages of HGV (86), being  8.3% of the total weekday average (1,032).
You may like to know the last time a survey was conducted, the weekday average of HGV travelling through Nocton was only 6.5% of the total weekday average, so there has been almost a 2% increase in number.

I asked the Lincolnshire County Council officer what a high rate of HGV would be... and was told between 10-11%. Our figure of 8.3% is "not unusual" for rural roads through Lincolnshire apparently.

There is however, concern over the high speed of vehicles entering and leaving the 30 mph zone. A mean speed of 38 mph is considered high compared to other villages and further measures will be taken to try and reduce this.
