Sunday 19th July
Rustons (175-3) beat Nocton (174 all out) by seven wickets
Nocton travelled to Rustons with a team of only seven men, and put in an excellent performance which unfortunately ended in defeat.
Nocton lost the toss and were invited to bat on a damp wicket. After an early loss, Matthew Stephens and Mikey Atkinson shared a good partnership and the team were 76-1 at the half way stage. The team increased the tempo after drinks, before Stephens was dismissed for 46, but David Franklin came in and quickly found the middle of the bat. Atkinson reached a well-made fifty, and pushed on until he was dismissed for 68. Two further quick wickets followed, but Daine Tierney came in and shared an excellent last-wicket partnership with Franklin. Tierney was unbeaten on 10 as Franklin was dismissed for 31, leaving Nocton 174 all out from 37.4 overs.
Early wickets were crucial for Nocton, unfortunately key batsman Martin Noble was dropped early on. The first wicket did not come until the 14th over, with Chris Brogan hitting the stumps. Two more wickets followed, as Atkinson and Miles Lynch also hit the stumps, but Rustons reached their target in the 33rd over. Noble ended unbeaten on 95. Having only seven men cost Nocton, as plenty of gaps in the field made the run rate difficult to control.
Six games remain in the season, as Nocton sit fifth in the league table (out of eight teams), with three wins, four defeats, and one cancellation from their eight games.
