Nocton Cricket Club

Nocton Cricket Club match report

Sunday 2nd August

Nocton (45-4) beat Billingborough (43 all out) by six wickets

Eight-man Nocton played host to Billingborough, looking to bounce back from defeats in their previous two games.

Billingborough won the toss and chose to bat first. Their openers tried to attack but Nocton’s bowlers were more than a match as they took early wickets. Dylan Garfoot took three wickets in his five over spell before making way for Chris Brogan who added a further two. From the other end, Mikey Atkinson took two wickets in his seven over spell, before he made way for Miles Lynch. The Billingborough innings was already in tatters at 43-7 before Lynch finished things off, as he took a hat-trick. The first two wickets were caught by wicketkeeper David Franklin – giving him four catches for the innings – while Lynch made no mistake with his hat-trick ball as he hit the stumps.  The Billingborough innings came to a close after just 18 overs.

It was agreed to delay tea until the conclusion of the match. Nocton set about their small run chase, and lost openers Matthew Stephens and Lynch early. Garfoot steadied the ship with 20, before a wobble was avoided at 30-4 as Atkinson and Franklin finished the job, handing Nocton victory by six wickets.

It was Nocton’s fifth win of the season, to go with six defeats - quite an achievement given they have played three matches with only seven players, three matches with eight players, two with nine players, two with ten players, and only one with a full team of eleven players (which they lost!)
The team welcomed back Darren Wilson after 12 years this weekend and has plenty of room for more players interested in joining. There are five games left in the season and the league table is extremely tight, as Nocton currently sit fifth out of eight teams.
