Nocton and District WI
August brought another open meeting with folk duo Nigel and Teri who played a selection of English, Irish and Contemporary songs. This talented couple accompanied themselves with the acoustic guitar, a melodeon and a bodhran and with very little encouragement needed, the members and visitors were soon joining in. The songs, ranging from Paul Simon, Ralph McTell and John Denver to traditional Irish Folk songs, were interspersed with amusing anecdotes from Nigel and Morris, a dancing wooden puppet! The topic for the competition was a musical instrument with Doreen coming first with her rain stick, with Julie`s slightly smaller rain stick earning her second place and Maria`s Tibetan singing bowl a very close run third. Maryann won the main WI raffle prize of a Chocolate cookery book plus two blocks of chocolate. Teri and Nigel very kindly donated one of their CD`s as an additional prize and this was won by Jenny.
The next event on the calendar is our Centenary celebration Garden Party later this month with almost 70 members both past and present having been invited. A wonderful celebration cake has been made by one of the members and a vast selection of sweet and savoury food has been pledged by the present members so let’s hope for a lovely day so our “posh frocks” and “big hats” can be worn in splendour.
Our September meeting is on Monday 14th and covers the mouth–watering topic of “Extraordinary Bread Making”. As this is yet another open meeting all are welcome to attend. The cost will be £3, the evening begins with the business section at 7.15pm, tea and cakes at 7.45pm and the talk at 8pm.
