Nocton and District WI - report

Incredible success

At the beginning of the month our WI had incredible success at the annual Witham Group produce show. The number of entries and level of competition was high but we were very pleased to acquire a fabulous display of silverware in a number of the shows categories including flowers, baking, photography and crafts. We also retained the Andrew cup for a second year which is presented to the WI with the most points overall.

At the September meeting we were off on our travels with a talk from Malcolm Earney entitled “Travels from the Canadian Arctic to the Jungles of Guatemala”. With the aid of photographs Malcolm gave us a whistle stop  account of the two and half years he and his wife spent travelling down from Canada working for a voluntary organisation which included helping with building projects and teaching in local schools. Some of the areas they were in were extreme and inhospitable in many ways but they thoroughly enjoyed their time working and living with the local people. The competition for the evening was a Travel Poem which was won by Maddie, with Jane in second place and Val A in third.
