Ian Fytche reply to Stephen Phillips QC MP
Following an intervention by our Member of Parliament over North Kesteven District Council's lack of communication with the community over our local listed heritage, you may like to see the Chief Executive's formal response to Stephen Phillips QC MP.
This does acknowledge that the establishment of CLAN could provide 'a potential opportunity for the Council to consider setting up a voluntary and not-for-profit Building Preservation Trust to oversee the future preservation and running of Nocton Hall'... but mentions the challenges of such would be substantial, considering the expertise and money that would be required for such a venture. However, there is a strict process that needs to be followed by NKDC before this can ever be considered seriously.
It is a real shame it has taken our local authority so long to get to this position. I will be interested to see the findings of my Freedom of Information request to analyse what constructive action (or otherwise), has been pursued over the years in respect of this matter.
I also feel strongly that this should not really be left for members of the community to be chasing up - it should be the responsibility of the local Parish Council to get proper recorded answers to formal correspondence on matters as important as this. I can't speak for what went on before May 2005 (when we moved to the village), but there has certainly been a noticeable lack of inertia since then. I have noticed though that the new influx of Parish Councillors are starting to put proceedings on a more formal and professional standing... and this bodes well for future Parish 'business'.
Nocton Hall is probably one of the most important features of the heart of our village and every effort should be taken to preserve this for future generations to enjoy.
