Whilst the Parish
Council wishes to applaud your public spirit in clearing up after those
individuals who do not seem to appreciate how anti-social it is to litter our
streets (particularly, it seems, along Wellhead Lane) may we urge you to stop
leaving your bags of collected rubbish attached to various parts of our Village
Hall. In some ways, doing this is just
as “anti-social” as those who drop the litter in the first place, since someone
else then has to clear up after you.
Earlier last month, I personally removed three bags of rubbish which you
had left hanging from the lenticular. They part-filled filled my own black
wheelie bin thus leaving much less room for our own rubbish that week. The collection of litter is not the Village
Hall’s responsibility so we do not see why you feel it necessary to leave it
there.
Neither is litter
collection the responsibility of the Parish Council (it’s the District
Council’s) although I am sure you will have noticed from the last edition of
The Doodle that we are currently advertising for a Village Keeper, part of
whose role will be to pick up litter. As
you clearly have considerable expertise in this activity, I very much hope that
you have applied for this job since if successful you would then be able to get
paid for what you do so well!
If, as you seem to
suggest, you know the identity of the culprits, then please do share this
information with the Parish Council so that we may pass it on to the relevant
authorities.
Many of us pick up
other people’s rubbish as we walk around our beautiful village but we take it
home and dispose of it ourselves. So, “ALP”,
on behalf of the Parish Council and the Village Hall, may I please ask that in
future, you do the same?
I very much hope that
you will accept this request in the spirit with which it is made and we look
forward to your future co-operation.
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Ian Goldsworthy
