Nocton Park - new bridge

Reinforced Concrete

My original blog about this construction work was back in June.  I find it interesting to watch how the bridge is being developed.

I am surprised that Sowerby Homes are having a bridge tailor-made for this location, rather than using a pre-formed concrete structure and then craning it into position.  This must be quite an expensive alternative I would have thought.

More information on reinforced concrete structures can be found in Wikipedia.

Let's see how the construction is coming on:

The culvert is now constructed and the parapet walls are in the process of being formed.  However, the right-hand wall seems to be at an odd angle for an aligned access to Wegberg Road, nor does it seem to align with the left-hand wall - so I don't really understand this. Furthermore, the design of wall for the upstream entry to the culvert is straight. I would have expected two tapered walls either side of the culvert entry point, in order to direct the flow of water into the tunnel.

Perhaps more work will be required when the main bridge structure has been constructed?

No doubt all will become clear when the work is in its final stages of completion.
